One of the greatest challenges of parenting is finding a child in the darkness. One of the greatest challenges of our lives is finding ourselves in the darkness.
Every year around this time of the lessening sun, the night intrudes, with all the metaphors of unseen chaos. The situation is personal, social, political, here and worldwide. In the revolving and returning cycle, we see among many ills, the addictions, the other hungers, the human weaknesses, the battles…
The story of the Christian Advent is like this: a refugee family among a great migration, a mother with child blessed with transportation and a father seeking safety. Not many knew where the next meal would come from, and they certainly expected no gifts. Someone opens the door! A light turns on with the power of a star and fills a bleak sanctuary! In there is born a hope for peace, joy, and love! We find the child.
This is a story of our human hearts. We share our human hearts, here, in this congregation, and the door is open.
